Contrast climate change and development of investments in energy efficiency, involved provinces: Bergamo, Brescia, Mantua, Milan, Monza-Brianza and Varese. Calls for tenders for private selection in the coming weeks.

The Lombardy Region and Fondazione Cariplo have allocated 12 million euros for the ecological transition under the framework agreement signed in January 2021 for joint actions in the field of environmental sustainability. In particular for some mitigation and adaptation interventions to climate change.

“The agreement – explains to the Councilor for the Environment and Climate of the Lombardy Region, Raffaele Cattaneo – is giving concrete results. Our loans have in fact been able to move investments for 25 million euros, confirming the importance of involving subjects with whom it is possible to forge strategic alliances and develop initiatives in favor of sustainability. The challenge we face today is therefore the transition of economic systems towards carbon neutrality. This can be done through energy efficiency, circular economy and renewable sources. But also through a new model of land use that allows a more effective penetration of rainwater and a more intense tree presence in urban areas. So as to better cope locally with climate change. The Region therefore intends to accompany this transition, which is a priority for the whole country, alongside businesses, other institutions and citizens”.

In particular, the Region co-finances with 4 million euros interventions of depavimentation, greening of public areas and urban forestation. For which Fondazione Cariplo intervenes with 200,000 euros for the Technical Assistance service, to define the Climate Transition Strategy of the territories involved and with a further 4.8 million euros for the realization of various interventions. How: urban forestation, soil depavimentation and mitigation (energy efficiency of buildings and creation of energy communities to promote sustainable mobility). But also revision of urban planning tools, capacity building of municipal technicians, involvement of citizens and climate monitoring.

The Lombardy Region and Cariplo are also involved in the ‘Virtuous Territories’ program. In fact, the Region has invested 3 million euros in the project for the municipalities of Cardano al Campo (Va), Pioltello and Magnago (Metropolitan City of Milan) and the Province of Pavia. Entities engaged in the replacement of polluting boilers. With the coverage of a part of the costs incurred for the energy efficiency of 65 public buildings. Interventions compatible, for times and characteristics, with the funding of the lr 9/2020. The remaining expenses will be reinforced with private investments, which will be repaid by public bodies through savings in the bill, thus guaranteeing interventions at ‘zero cost’. In turn, Fondazione Cariplo has promoted the activation of energy investments, by private individuals, and reduction of public spending. With a technical, legal and economic-financial support service to identify an Energy service company (Esco) able to carry out energy efficiency actions with own or third-party capital.

The calls for tenders for the selection of private individuals will be published in the coming weeks.
